George mendazona

Varsity Assistant Coach

George is recognized as one of the best athletes and baseball players that have come out of Central Oregon. He attended Ridgeview HS where he starred as a baseball, basketball and football player. He was player of the year in the conference in baseball and basketball and was All-State in all three sports (3x baseball, 2x basketball and 1x football)

After high school, George played baseball at Oregon State where he and his roommate Adley Ruschman powered the Beavers to the top. After four years at Oregon State he finished his playing career at Lubbock Christian. On the subject of coaching at Summit, George wrote:

"I want to give back to a community where I was raised. A community that did not have the resources available then that are now much more accessible to the kids in our area (personal training, high level club teams, private lessons). I believe you will see a jump in both skills and fundamentals working with me, as well as watching your athlete have plenty of fun (after all, it is a game!). It is my passion to help kids see their potential in sport and maximize that out on the field. I also aim to shape my athletes into respectful and responsible young kids. I am a believer in respect, character, and all the other traits that not only benefit kids on the field but also as people in our community. I hope to make an impact on all of the people I work with and I hope we will have plenty of fun in the years to come."

Ian Stout

JV2 Assistant Coach

Coach Ian Stout, affectionately known as “Stouter”, is proud to be coaching his 8th season of High School baseball and 2024 marks a special year with his two oldest sons in the Summit program.

A Pacific Northwest native, Ian has called Bend his home since 2002. Together with Shaleana, his beautiful wife and partner of 25 plus years, they share three amazing sons, Gavin (17), Mason (15) and Canon (13).

Coach Stout is well versed in management and strategy of the game and brings his personal player experience, skills and lessons learned to the field.  Like many, he found his love for the game and began his playing career in Little League which continued through High School Varsity and American Legion baseball.

Showing leadership through a steady hand and strong voice coupled with smiles, laughs and love for all his players, along with his laid-back approach and humorous commentary, make him a player and fan favorite to be around.

Ian tends to be a funny bone for the Summit baseball program and prides himself as the “Mr. Fix It” of everything from lawn equipment to re-lacing baseball gloves.  When he’s not on the field coaching, he enjoys watching and rooting for the Seattle Mariners.  Otherwise, a true Bendite he can be found in the outdoors taking advantage of what Central Oregon has to offer camping with his family, fishing, catching local concerts/shows with his wife and friends and aspiring to find time to tinker on his 1967 Camaro he has owned since he was 17 years old.

“Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.”
